Effective tips for proper usage and maintenance of residential air purifiers

With an array of products and technologies available in the market, different air purifiers work with different functionality and offer different features. In addition to this, there are different types of filters available used for various purposes- some remove odor, some are used for allergen and pollutant removal, some are used for smoke, and others remove pollen and dust. HEPA filters are among the most commonly used filters along with activated carbon filters.

Some brands come with specified instructions for cleaning the filter and its maintenance.

Now that we are familiar with specifications, here are a few general effective tips to maintain your air purification system:

  • Keep the area around the air purification system clean.

  • Keep an eye on the digital indicator and display screen.

  • Make sure you don’t place anything over the purification system.

  • Prior to cleaning the residential air purifiers, turn them off and unplug them from the source.

  • Make sure you place the air purifier in a place that allows it to suck in the air freely.

  • For outside parts, use a damp cloth for cleaning the surface. Even a dry piece of cloth works to wipe the dust off its surface.

  • It is important to remember that HEPA and activated carbon filters are non-washable. Also, never use a vacuum cleaner on them.

  • Permanent filters usually require cleaning every three months. However, it is good to keep an eye on them every two weeks.

  • Avoid using detergents or any other cleaning solvents for cleaning the filters.

  • In case your device has pre-filters, wash them regularly.
